Save Water

The Water Resources Board Strategic Plan and State Guide Plan Element Water 2030 recognize the importance of public education and demand management to protecting our water resources and ensuring safe, ample and reliable water supplies. Our challenges and needs vary by region and by type of supply.

The Board promotes best practices for lawn maintenance encouraging everyone to SLOW THE FLOW. It can be as simple as turning off the sprinklers when it's raining!

The Board also encourages Rhode Islanders to save water especially during the summer months. A SAVE WATER THIS SUMMER campaign was targeted in its first year to Southern Rhode Island. The Board seeks to increase awareness and appeal to residents and visitors to use less water during the summer months and during drought conditions.

Even small savings can make a big difference during the peak water use season. Can you save a little every day? At the tap (2-4 gallons per minute), toilets (water efficient at 1.28 gallons per flush v. up to 5 gallons per flush for older models), on the lawn (1" a week is all you need). Water is precious; be creative.
